| UP IN THE GALLERY                 Music Halls produced a wide variety of
entertainment. With acts that catered to the lower middle class often in a
noisy atmosphere interspersed with the odd act that would stand vocally on
its own merit and be requested to reappear regularly depending on how it was
received by the ‘masses’.  For working
people it gave them some respite from their dismal daily life and poor
working conditions. Conversely it also produced ‘Stars’ who became
prominently popular and were the forerunners of the ’Star’ system we all have
so often witnessed in our own age.
For the vintage record collector I have assimilated much
discographical information where possible in the form of a dating guide to
the repertoire of many of the early recording artists.  As the curtin rises, I present you with
  "Up In The Gallery".  The
advent and establishment of British Music halls and very early recording
  stars.     |
